AUDIO MORSE TOOL

Morse Code Audio Translator: Convert Sound, Text and Morse

Create Morse code audio from text or decode a clean Morse recording into dots, dashes, and readable text. Audio processing runs in your browser.

Audio decoding has limits

Automatic decoding works best with clean CW-style tones. Noise, speech, music, changing pitch, clipping, or irregular hand-sent timing can reduce accuracy. Keep uncertain results visible and verify important messages.

01

How to Use the Morse Code Audio Translator

This Morse code audio translator works in two directions. You can turn text into playable Morse audio, or upload a clean Morse recording and convert the detected signal into dots, dashes, and readable text.

1

Choose a Mode

Select Text → Morse Audio or Audio → Morse → Text.

2

Add Your Input

Type text for audio generation or choose a local audio recording to decode.

3

Adjust the Settings

Set WPM, Farnsworth spacing, pitch, volume, or audio detection sensitivity.

4

Play or Decode

Listen to the generated signal or review the detected Morse and decoded text.

02

Convert Text to Morse Code Audio

Enter a message in the first tab and the tool converts each supported character into International Morse Code. It then plays the pattern as timed audio tones.

TEXT HELLO WORLD
→
MORSE .... . .-.. .-.. --- / .-- --- .-. .-.. -..
→
AUDIO Short and long tones

You can change the character speed, spacing speed, tone pitch, and volume before playback. Use Download WAV when you want a local audio copy of the generated Morse signal.

CHARACTER SPEED

What Does WPM Mean in Morse Code?

WPM means words per minute. It controls how quickly individual Morse characters are sent. A higher WPM setting makes dots, dashes, and the spacing inside each character shorter.

The standard timing relationship still stays the same: a dash lasts three dot units.

LEARNING SPACING

What Is Farnsworth Spacing?

Farnsworth timing keeps individual characters at a chosen character speed while increasing the gaps between letters and words. This gives learners more time to recognize each character without stretching the character itself.

Set Farnsworth speed lower than character WPM when you want more listening time between characters.

03

How to Translate Morse Code From Audio

Open the Audio → Morse → Text tab and choose a recording that contains clear Morse-like tones. The tool analyzes changes between audible signal regions and silence, estimates timing, then classifies shorter tones as dots and longer tones as dashes.

The decoder also reports an estimated dot duration, approximate WPM, audio length, and the number of detected tone regions. These diagnostics can help you judge whether the result matches the original recording.

04

Best Audio for Morse Code Decoding

Automatic audio decoding is easiest when the recording contains a clear, steady signal with consistent timing.

BEST RESULTS
  • One clear Morse tone
  • Consistent dot and dash timing
  • Clear pauses between characters
  • Low background noise
  • No clipping or heavy distortion
  • Short or moderate recording length
HARDER TO DECODE
  • Speech or spoken “dot” and “dash” words
  • Music behind the Morse signal
  • Radio chatter or several overlapping tones
  • Changing volume or severe compression
  • Very irregular hand-sent timing
  • Recordings with weak signal-to-noise ratio

Current browser-based Morse audio decoders also emphasize clean single-tone recordings and clear timing for the most reliable results. Treat automatic output as a best-effort interpretation when the source is noisy or irregular.

05

Which Audio File Formats Can I Use?

The upload field accepts browser-supported audio files. WAV is usually the safest choice because support is predictable and the format can preserve a clean generated signal.

WAVRecommended

Good choice for clean Morse recordings and generated signals.

MP3Browser dependent

Commonly supported, but lossy compression may affect weak or noisy signals.

M4A / AACBrowser dependent

May work when the browser can decode the selected file.

OGGBrowser dependent

Support varies across browsers and operating systems.

File support depends on your browser.

If a compressed file fails to open or decode, try converting the source to a standard WAV file first.

06

How Morse Code Audio Timing Works

International Morse Code uses timing ratios rather than fixed milliseconds. The actual duration changes with speed, but the relationship between signal elements stays consistent.

Dot1 unit
Dash3 units
Inside character1 unit
Between letters3 units
Between words7 units

ITU-R Recommendation M.1677-1 defines these International Morse Code timing relationships. The International Telecommunication Union currently lists M.1677-1 as In force (Main).

07

How to Improve an Incorrect Audio Decode

A blank or inaccurate result does not always mean the recording contains invalid Morse. Small changes to detection settings can help with some files.

No Morse Is Detected

Lower the detection sensitivity if the signal is quiet. Check that the file actually contains audible Morse-like tones.

Dots Are Missing

Reduce the minimum tone setting if very short signals are being ignored.

Noise Becomes Morse

Raise the detection sensitivity or use a cleaner recording with less background sound.

Letters Are Grouped Wrong

Irregular spacing can confuse automatic letter and word boundaries. Compare the detected Morse with the original audio.

08

Morse Code Audio Translator vs Decoder vs Generator

These tools overlap, but each page is designed around a different input type.

09

Does the Audio Stay on My Device?

The audio processing in the tool above is performed with browser-side JavaScript and the Web Audio API. The selected file is read by your browser for analysis rather than being sent to a Morse decoding server by this tool.

Browser behavior, extensions, analytics, hosting infrastructure, or other site services are separate from the audio decoder itself. Do not upload sensitive material unless you are comfortable using it in your browser environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Morse code audio translator?

A Morse code audio translator works with Morse sound. It can generate timed Morse tones from text or analyze a Morse recording and convert detected signals into dots, dashes, and text.

Can I translate Morse code from an audio file?

Yes. Upload a browser-supported Morse recording in the Audio → Morse → Text tab, then run the analyzer to get detected Morse and decoded text.

Can I convert text to Morse code sound?

Yes. Type your text in the Text → Morse Audio tab, choose your WPM, pitch, volume, and spacing, then press Play Audio.

Can I download Morse code audio?

Yes. The text-to-audio mode can export the generated signal as a WAV file.

What audio format is best for Morse decoding?

WAV is usually the safest option. Other formats such as MP3, M4A, AAC, or OGG may work when your browser supports decoding them.

Why is my Morse audio decoding incorrect?

Background noise, changing volume, overlapping sounds, compression, or irregular timing can cause errors. Try a cleaner recording and adjust detection sensitivity or the minimum tone setting.

What does WPM mean?

WPM means words per minute. In Morse code it describes the character sending speed and determines how long a dot lasts.

What is Farnsworth timing?

Farnsworth timing keeps characters at a faster character speed while increasing the spacing between letters and words, giving learners more recognition time.

Can this tool decode speech or music?

It is not designed as a speech or music transcription tool. It works best with clear Morse-like tones separated by silence.

Does Morse audio processing happen in my browser?

Yes. The audio analysis used by this tool runs in the browser with JavaScript and browser audio features.
